Formerly The Great Southern Hotel this gracious "Old lady" was the first ever purpose built Irish hotel in 1853 and it still thrives as a timeless reminder of the style and splendor of a bygone age. Graced by Queen Victoria in 1861 this elegant 4* Hotel combines old world charm with the most up-to-date luxurious facilities. Steeped in history this hotel was refurbished in 1900 at a cost of 6000 pounds. In 2002 the hotel was refurbished at a cost of 14 million !!!! These changes have not however altered the atmosphere of one of Ireland's most charming hotels.
